FAQ

How many sessions will my child need?

There is no rule for how many sessions each child needs, this varies for everyone. However, I would say that we will need a minimum of 6-10 sessions to build a trusting relationship where we are able to begin work.

How long is a session?

Sessions are 45 minutes long. Each session will be at the same time each week unless we have changed this in advance. I have to stick to time so if you are late to a session, it will be shorter.

How much is a session?

Private counselling is £60 per session. School prices may vary.

How frequently are sessions?

I suggest that weekly is best for sessions, however I undertstand that for some this is not possible with time and finances. If this is the case then every other week is ok.

Will you tell me what they talk about?

No I won't. Sessions are confidential and I will explain that to the child at the start of the sessions. I will share content if I am concerned about safeguarding or I will share themes or ideas if I think something can be done at home. There are occasions where I will get the child's permission to share their concerns with you. Otherwise all content is confidential.

Are you working during covid?

Yes I am. I am doing a mixture of online and face to face sessions. Those who come to me in person have their temperature taken upon arrival, are asked to wash or sanitise their hands and then resources are disinfected after each client.

What do you mean by 'creative counselling'?

My training was at The Institute for Arts in Therapy and Education. We learnt how to use paint, clay, sand, play, stories and much more to help the children we are working with. This means that it isn't just talking therapy. I find this helps the children to open up much easier and in a way that feels safer to them.

Can you help with a diagnosis?

No I can't. I am not qualified to diagnose with anything. I do highly recommend a local educational psychologist.

How much information will school be given?

School works the same as parents. I share with them if I have a safeguarding concern or if I feel that there is something the school can do to support the child.

Do you work in school holidays?

Yes, I work year round. I have time away from schools during holidays, however my private practice continues. There will be times where I take holiday, however clients will have advanced warning of this.
